Information for Panel Presenters and Discussants

  • Presentation Order & Timing: Presentations proceed in the order listed on the program. Each paper is allotted 40 minutes: 18 minutes for the author’s presentation, 8 minutes for the discussant comments, and 14 minutes for Q&A. It is essential that we stick to this schedule, as attendees may move between sessions to catch different papers, and some sessions have only two papers.  Keeping each paper to 40 minutes will keep the panels aligned.

  • Moderators: The last presenter in each session will be the “moderator,” meaning that they will be responsible for giving time cues to the other presenters.  Time cards will be in each room, along with reminders about the length of each part.

  • Slides for Presenters & Discussants:  We will pre-load your slides on classroom computers so that they are easily accessible when you arrive at the room.  We request that you send your slides by October 31 to cels2022@law.virginia.edu  Please also bring your slides on a USB key (and all registered participants will receive a CELS UVA 2022 flash drive upon check in). Room captains will be on hand to help if any issues arise.

  • Access to Papers: We will link papers on a share from a password-protected website and share the password with attendees.  This will keep the papers somewhat walled off, but is at best, “security through obscurity.”  If you would like your paper de-linked before we share the password with all attendees, please let us know by Thursday 10/27.  (We will indicate “contact authors” in such instances.)

Information for Poster Presenters

  • Poster Set-Up: For those who sent us your poster files in advance, we will print and set up your poster in Scott Commons (the reception site) Friday afternoon. If you’re printing your own poster, feel free to set it up yourself anytime Friday afternoon.
